About me
Background
My background and experience mean that I am less concerned with working with techniques, and more concerned with understanding, recognition and meaning. In my experience such work holds an enormous potential for change and liberation.
I hold a degree in psychology from the University of Oslo, 1987, with a clinical specialisation sequence. This is a six-year full-time professional study programme.
I became interested in psychodynamic thinking early on, and in Carl Gustav Jung in particular. My theoretical foundation today also builds on object relations theory, relational psychoanalysis, mentalisation, as well as the more existential and humanistic traditions.
I have long been interested in Buddhist philosophy and meditation practice. My thesis concerned consciousness and the development of consciousness seen in the light of transpersonal psychology.
After my degree I completed a four-year postgraduate training in psychodynamic psychotherapy at the Institute of Psychotherapy in Oslo, finishing in 2001. This training includes requirements for extensive personal therapy and supervision of one's own work. I am an approved training therapist and supervisor at the institute.
I have spent more than 30 years in full-time private psychotherapy practice. I have therefore worked with all age groups, from teenagers to seniors, and with many kinds of questions and very varied difficulties.
I consider continued professional development very important, and make a point of attending professional meetings, seminars and congresses, nationally and internationally.
